You need to ask yourself two things. How long will you be sitting in this chair and what will you be doing while you are in it? Knowing the answer to these two questions will make a huge difference as to whether or not you are comfortable or not. Many people can take a basic chair and find comfort in it if they are just hanging out. The point where a specific chair becomes important is when you actually have to do work in it, like typing or doing paperwork.
In this article I will discuss the different kinds of chairs and hopefully when I’m finished you will have a better grasp of what type of chair you need to be looking for when shopping around.
1. Executive Office Chair: Your feet should always be planted on the ground whether you are tilted back or not. Your chair should have a knee-tilt mechanism which is located on the underside of your chair. The arms on the chair are usually padded not only for aesthetics but for extra added comfort. Executive chairs are generally more stylish than any other office chair and they are usually larger as well. Many times an executive chair is made of some type of leather in a higher end office. Many times this type of chair is good for executives that spend a large amount of time on a computer, signing documents or talking on the phone.
2. Moderate Use Chair: This is a great chair for the executive that spends a good amount of time on their phone and computer. This chair also has a knee-tilt mechanism allowing for tilting while still keeping your feet planted on the ground. What happens when you tilt back and your feet no longer reach the floor is your legs start to fall asleep and you will begin to feel great discomfort. I know from personal experience that if you are experience these things, your chair is either tilted too far back or your seat is too high. All you need to do is adjust the chair so that your feet are planted flat on the floor. A moderate use chair is very similar to an executive chair except that it doesn’t look as fancy. It is more of a task chair. It can be made with fabric or leather depending on your taste but it is much smaller than an executive chair.
3. Heavy Use Chair: This type of chair is designed for those folks spending endless hours at their desk. A prime example would be a receptionist. You will find multiple functions on this chair. Many times you will find that the arms are adjustable, allowing for individual comfort. A synchro tilt mechanism which allows the person to make an adjustment where the chair tilts forward or back and your body stays against the chair, providing ongoing back support. You may also find that the backrest adjusts up and down. This type of chair is exremely comfortable and versatile.
The type of office chair you decide on is all up to you. But, you know your own personal needs and you should know the needs of your employees. All you need to buy the perfect office chair is how employees will be using it. Then it’s a matter of finding a design you like best.
Enjoy!
